City Growth was an ambitious programme for economic renewal launched by the then Chancellor, Gordon Brown, in 2004.  It focused regeneration efforts on local strengths and working with the private sector.

Management Focus was instrumental in every stage of developing the City Growth Strategy for London South Central.  This included:

  • Adapting to the UK an approach developed by Professor Michael Porter’s Boston-based Initiative for a Competitive Inner City,
  • Undertaking a major research programme that involved interviewing 100 company directors,
  • Consulting with local authorities and
  • Preparing a strategy that was endorsed by a business-led Board.

The cluster analysis used was subsequently adopted as best practice and utilised by the subsequent round of projects.
